A house with soul and deep roots<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Although El Sitio officially opened its doors in 1996, the history of this property begins much earlier: centuries ago, when life on El Hierro followed the rhythm of the seasons and the \u00abmudadas\u00bb.<\/p>

In the past, Herre\u00f1a families lived in the higher areas of the island, but during the pruning and harvesting months they moved to the Gulf, where they cultivated their vineyards and made their own wines. This house was witness to that way of life.<\/p>

The main house – today the reception and yoga room – is more than 150 years old. In its time it was one of the largest dwellings in the area. The old cellar, where the cosy reception is today, was used for storing food; the present yoga room was the family bedroom. The bathroom was far away, outside; the massage room was once the kitchen, and the beast room, today the laundry, was where the animals were kept.

It is said that around 1935 two priests lived here and owned the first radio station in the Gulf. The people of the village would come to listen to the news of the world and then go up to the church of La Candelaria to pray.<\/p>

In 1994 the property passed into the hands of the current owner, who was already in a state of abandonment. From then on, and with great respect for the traditional Herre\u00f1a architecture, the seven holiday houses were built. After months of work, on the 24th of July 1996, El Sitio was officially born.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
